feeling loupy...

i was directed to an amazing little find the other day by a co-worker--Daily Candy. the topic--tennis. i was immediately intrigued. i love design and i am in love with the game of tennis (i played tennis in college and work at a tennis store part-time). the article briefly talks about a line of clothing that i feel as a tennis player would really work for women in a non-nike/adidas sort of way. their pieces look like something you could wear to your match and then (after freshening up a bit) put on some flats or dare i say a pair of stilettos and head out to dinner. it's a cute line of clothing. check them out!

Feeling Loupy
Loup Tennis Separates

A great match, fuzzy balls, a little grunting, the sweet spot, and some follow-through.

What’s not to love about tennis?

Especially when you get to wear charming designs by Loup. The collection of modern tennis threads marries fashion and function with clean lines, neutral hues, and pops of color crafted from stretch-woven, quick-dry fabrics.

Ace the competition in a T-shirt dress or the box-pleat skirt paired with the basic tank. Make no unforced errors in the ruffle-sleeve top and soft flowy shorts. And after your victory, throw on the gathered zip-up jacket.

The pieces are just as cute off the court as they are on, so you don’t have to take a change of clothes for postgame activities.

That would be a racket.

redesigns: not always good.

As I was reading the NY Times this morning and seeing what had occurred in the world, I came across the new "T Magazine". I just so happens that it has been redesigned. As a designer, I liked the old design. The site was easy to navigate and design wise it was simple and yet elegant in every sense of the word. However, the new layout is clean, fresh, and modern with a center stationary image that can be scrolled through as well as navigation on either side. With the old site there was less scrolling and with my new found knowledge of web design--the less scrolling the better. People get bored!

Redesigns are not always a good idea. Take for instance the new Pepsi logo that was unveiled last year. The old logo was known around the world and there was no need for the company to change it. The new logo kept the same color scheme but they tried to interpret a smile which changes which each one of their drinks.

loving life.

"To love what you do and feel that it matters--how could anything be more fun?" --Katharine Graham (featured in PINK magazine Nov. Dec. 2007 issue)

I found this today as I was combing through piles of old issues of PINK magazine preparing for our new website LittlePINKBook.com. I'm at a point in my life and career where loving what you do is essential. I'm probably not old enough to even be saying this (at the ripe old age of 24), but if you don't realize it now when do you??? I love what I do as odd as that sounds in a world filled with people dying of stress and resenting the profession they've chosen. I am an Intern at PINK magazine where I assist our fabulous Art Director and New Media Director with the website, images, and any other work that needs doing (because let's face it it's the small tasks that lead to the big picture...whatever that may be). I also do freelance graphic design work. At the moment I have 2 customers and always looking for more. I love the opportunity to work with new people and face new challenges.

At the end of the day do you do what you love? Think about it. Maybe it's time for a change <3

vancouver olympics

"For too long the world has failed to recognise that the Olympic Games and the Olympic Movement are about fine athletics and fine art."
-Avery Brundage, American sports Administrator and President of the International Olympic Commitee (IOC) from 1952 to 1972. 1887-1975

the Olympics is a celebration of some of the best athletes in the world. therefore, the design carrying such an event must be exceptional as well. design associated with the Olympics for the 20th and 21st centuries has been modern, fresh, and instep with the design of the given era. new ideas have been introduced as well as new ideas for inventive typefaces (i.e. the Mexico Olympics circa 1968). and the Vancouver Olympics is no different. the look and feel of the design elements present are clean vibrant and keep in step with today's design aesthetic.

so long ol' chap

"Alexander McQueen made an outstanding contribution to British fashion. His extraordinary talent and creativity mean that his designs are adored not just by followers of haute couture but lovers of great style everywhere. This is a great loss to one of Britain's most successful industries and to the design world more widely." Portadown Today

PINK + Bright House

let me begin by saying that i work in the most awesome building ever! it is a converted loft with three floors. color everywhere. famous inspiring quotes. exposed brick walls. floor to ceiling windows. and the sound of little feet running up and down the stairs from upstairs to the main level. i love working in an environment that isn't boring or stiff or uptight. it's rather the opposite. girls constantly talking about the latest boot-camp workout and jordan (Bright House) screaming about his AMAZING RACE adventures. i am challenged and pushed everyday. i am constantly learning new things. and most of all--i'm loving every minute of it! for once, i leave work and cannot wait to wake up the next day and do it all over again.

welcome.

hello! i am the marketing/art intern at PINK magazine in atlanta, ga. this blog will give you insight into my world as a graphic designer as well as serve as a platform for ideas or designs that i find interesting.
